All Rio Grande County Offices will be closed January 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day 

Due to additional State changes to property tax requirements and subsequent software changes, property tax notices will be delayed. Property tax amounts for 2025 payable in 2026 will be available by the end of January. You are welcome to contact us for more information @ Treasurers Office 719-657-2747.


The Rio Grande County Clerk & Recorder's office will be closed on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Staff will be attending training for the computer upgrade of the motor vehicle system. The office will reopen at 7am on Thursday morning for regular business hours. Marriage & Civil Union License

Marriage Heart

Both parties should come to the Clerk's office at same time to apply for a license.

Proof of age and Social Security number are required.

If either party is under the age of 18 or both parties cannot come in, contact the office for additional information.

License must be used within 35 days of purchase.

Marriage or Civil Union must take place in Colorado.

After marriage or civil union, license must be returned to Rio Grande County Clerk’s office within 63 days.

After the certificate is recorded, the original certificate, the application and a certified copy of the certificate will be returned to the parties at no additional cost.
