Regarding the increase on 2025 tax bills:
Legislation that was in effect for the 2023 and 2024 tax years has ended. This legislation previously exempted $55,000 in value for residential properties and $30,000 for commercial properties. Because these exemptions no longer apply to 2025 tax bills, residents will see an average increase of approximately $270 and commercial owners an increase of approximately $550.
Additionally, 2025 was a reappraisal year. Notices of Value were sent in May to inform property owners of their new values. Also, new legislation regarding assessment rates has also taken effect: the school’s assessed value rate is now 7.05% of the actual value, while all other entities rate is at 6.25%. Due to these changes, specific values are not printed on the tax bills.
Some good news is that legislation comes into effect for 2026 tax bill to have 10% of 700,000 exempted off. Meaning residences will get $70,000 of value off.
New Policy regarding address changes:
Due to an increase in fraudulent activity, all address change requests must now be submitted in writing. Each request must include the signatures of all property owners and must be accompanied by a valid form of identification or a recent utility bill.
For properties with multiple owners, a signature and a copy of identification from each owner are required.
