The Rio Grande County Coroner's office strives to provide Compassion, Dignity and Honor to the decedents and their families who come into the care of our office.

Selection of Funeral Home for Final Disposition

It is and always has been the policy of the Rio Grande County Coroner's office to give only the name and phone number of local funeral homes to the next of kin when a victim's advocate is unavailable.   The selection of a funeral home is done only by the next of kin.  At no time will a representative from the coroner's office make recommendations to or coerce a next of kin into choosing a specific funeral home.

The Rio Grande Coroner's office is assisted by the Rio Grande County Victim Advocate, who has developed a grief package to assist families in navigating one of the most difficult times one could have.  The Victim Advocate responds to most calls with the coroner on-duty and will provide contact information of funeral homes while assisting the family.
